Why should I choose a commissioned New Jersey Notary Public?
A Notary Public commissioned by the State Treasurer, State of New Jersey is legally authorized to perform notarial acts under New Jersey law. This means:
- Every notarization is legally valid and recognized by courts, government agencies, financial institutions, and international authorities
- Your documents are handled in compliance with NJ notarial statutes — protecting you from rejected or invalid documents
- We carry professional accountability — errors and omissions are our responsibility to correct
- Unlike online directories or generic signing services, we review your documents before any appointment is confirmed
Choosing a commissioned notary ensures your important documents are handled correctly the first time.
How do I know which service I need?
If you’re unsure which service applies to your situation, contact us at contact@blueinknotary.co or submit a quote request. We review your documents and confirm the correct service. A deposit is required to secure your appointment.
Do you accept walk-ins?
No. All services are by appointment only. Mobile appointments require a minimum of 2 hours advance notice. Please contact us to schedule.
Can you notarize documents for someone who is elderly, hospitalized, or has limited mobility?
Yes. This is one of the most important benefits of mobile notary services. We travel directly to hospitals, rehabilitation centers, assisted living and memory care facilities, private residences, and any other location where the signer is present.
- The signer must be mentally competent and able to communicate their understanding of the document
- A valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID is still required
- Facility visits may require advance notice or coordination with staff — please let us know when booking
- If witnesses are required (e.g. for a Will or Financial POA), please confirm at the time of scheduling
Please contact us directly to arrange a facility or bedside visit so we can coordinate appropriately.

What is Remote Online Notarization (RON)?
RON is a notarization performed over a secure audio-visual platform. It is performed by a Notary Public commissioned by the State Treasurer, State of New Jersey, using BlueNotary, a compliant RON technology provider. Your identity is verified through multi-factor authentication and credential analysis. Signatures are witnessed electronically and the notarial certificate is applied digitally. Signers may be located anywhere.
Is Remote Online Notarization legal in New Jersey?
Yes. RON is authorized under New Jersey law. The notary must be commissioned in New Jersey and use an approved RON platform. Signers may be located anywhere.
Note: Acceptance of the notarized document is determined by the receiving institution or country, not the notary.
Are all documents eligible for Remote Online Notarization?
⚠ Important: New Jersey law does not permit RON for wills, codicils, pour-over wills, or other testamentary documents under the NJ Uniform Electronic Transactions Act (UETA). These documents must be executed with wet ink signatures and in-person notarization.
Additionally, documents notarized via RON are not eligible for NJ apostille processing, which requires an original wet ink signature and seal. Acceptance is determined by the receiving institution.
How long does a mobile notary appointment take?
Most mobile notary appointments take 15 to 30 minutes for standard documents. All documents are signed in the presence of the notary at the time of the appointment.
More complex appointments — such as estate planning packages, multiple signers, or large document sets — may take longer. We will give you a time estimate when confirming your appointment.
Do all signers need to be present at the same time?
Yes. All signers must be present at the same appointment and must sign in the presence of the notary. Documents cannot be pre-signed, and the notary cannot return at a separate time for additional signers on the same document.
- Each signer must have a valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID
- All signers must be present at the same location at the time of the appointment
- If a signer is in a different location, a separate RON session or mobile appointment may be arranged
Please indicate the number of signers when submitting your request so we can confirm timing and pricing.
Do you offer mobile notary services?
Yes. We travel to your home, office, hospital, senior living facility, or other approved location throughout the Trenton and Mercer County area, and surrounding NJ counties including Morris, Passaic, Bergen, Union, Monmouth, Middlesex, and Burlington.
- Mercer County: Starting at $65
- All other NJ counties: Starting at $100
- Travel fees are separate from service fees and confirmed at booking.
- Mobile appointments require a minimum of 2 hours advance notice.
Can I use Remote Online Notarization for documents going to another country?
It depends on the destination country and the receiving institution. There are two important limitations to be aware of:
- Apostille processing: Documents notarized via RON are not eligible for NJ apostille processing, which requires an original wet ink signature and seal. If your document needs an apostille for international use, it must be notarized in person.
- Acceptance varies: Some countries and institutions do not accept electronically notarized documents. We recommend confirming with the receiving party before booking a RON session for international use.
When in doubt, book an in-person appointment. This ensures your document is eligible for apostille processing and accepted by all international authorities.
What identification is required for notarization?
A valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID is required for all notarizations. Accepted forms include:
- Driver’s license
- State-issued ID
- U.S. military ID
- U.S. passport or passport card
- Permanent resident card (Green Card)
All IDs must be current and not expired at the time of service.
RON Appointments: Identity is verified through credential analysis and knowledge-based authentication (KBA) via the BlueNotary platform. A government-issued photo ID is still required.
Can you notarize a document in a language other than English?
Yes. A notary’s role is to verify the identity of the signer and witness the signing — not to read or interpret the document. We can notarize documents in any language.
- The signer must understand what they are signing. If they do not read the language of the document, they should have it translated before the appointment
- We do not provide interpretation services, but translation coordination is available through our partner Idiomatic Translations
- For documents requiring both translation and notarization, contact us to coordinate both services
What if something is incorrect or missing in my documents?
We review all documents before processing. If we identify an issue, we will contact you to discuss options before proceeding.
Clients are responsible for the accuracy and completeness of submitted documents. Errors not caused by the notary will be at the client’s expense to correct. Notary errors are corrected at no charge — please notify us within 72 hours of your service date.
What is an apostille?
An apostille is a certificate issued by a government authority that authenticates the origin of a public document for use in another country that is a member of the Hague Apostille Convention. It verifies the signature and seal of the official who signed the document.
What is the difference between an apostille and embassy legalization?
📌 Hague Countries: We obtain an apostille through the appropriate state or federal authority. Used for 120+ member countries. Faster and simpler process.
📌 Non-Hague Countries: We facilitate authentication through the U.S. Department of State and the destination embassy or consulate. The process varies by embassy and additional fees apply.
How long does the apostille or legalization process take?
- NJ State Apostille — Standard: 2–4 business days
- NJ State Apostille — Next Day: 24 hours
- Out-of-State Apostille — Standard: Varies by state, typically 5–10 business days
- FBI Apostille — Standard: 3–5 weeks via U.S. Department of State
- FBI Apostille — Expedited: 8–10 business days
- Non-Hague Embassy Legalization: Approximately 4–8 weeks (varies by embassy)
Note: All timelines are estimates and not guaranteed. Embassy and international document shipments are subject to additional delays including customs review, diplomatic processing, and carrier limitations. Priority handling may be available — contact us for details.
Do you process apostilles for documents from other states?
Yes. We process apostilles for documents issued in all 50 states. Documents may be mailed in or we can arrange pickup. Additional fees and processing times apply for out-of-state documents depending on the issuing state’s requirements.
What if my documents are rejected by a government agency?
We will assist you in understanding the reason for rejection and available options. Rejection due to document errors, ineligibility, or agency decisions is outside our control. Apostille facilitation fees are non-refundable once processing has begun. Any reprocessing required due to client errors will be at the client’s expense.
What happens if there is a government shutdown or agency delay?
If a federal shutdown, embassy closure, or other agency disruption occurs, your documents will be held securely and processed as soon as services resume. We will notify you promptly of any known delays. State-level apostille processing through the NJ Division of Revenue is generally not affected by federal shutdowns.
Can you notarize my will?
Yes, we can notarize wills. However, there are important requirements:
- Wills require in-person notarization with wet ink signatures — RON is not permitted for wills under NJ law
- Two witnesses are required in addition to notarization under New Jersey law ($35 per witness)
- We do not draft or provide legal advice on estate planning documents — please consult a licensed attorney
